Add a touch of love to your home with DIY Valentine Coasters - handmade elegance for your coffee table ❤️
Sewing a curved line can be a bit tricky, especially when it comes to heart shapes. This project is ideal for beginners looking to practice. I promise, after giving it a go, you’ll be a pro at sewing those adorable heart curves!
Gather Your Materials:
- Scraps of fabric of your choice
- Any type of batting of your choice. For mine, I used Insul-bright insulating batting (Thermal batting)
- Sewing clips (or pins)
- Fabric scissors
- Ruler
- Sewing machine, needle, coordinating thread
- Fabric marking pen or pencil
- Seam creaser or chopsticks
Step 1. Cut the Fabric and the Batting

Step 2: Prepare to Sew
- On one of the fabric heart pieces, use a fabric marking pen to mark the seam allowance (3/8 inch) on the wrong side, and be sure to mark or clip the notch position.
- Arrange the pieces in the following order: start with the batting (which doesn’t have a right/wrong side), then place the unmarked fabric piece with the wrong side facing the batting. Finally, position the marked fabric (from #1) with the right side facing with the previously stacked pieces.
- Secure the layers in place by either pinning or clipping before sewing. Also, don’t forget to clip the center of the heart this will make sewing the curves easier.
Step 3: Sewing
- Sew along the 3/8-inch seam allowance, leaving an opening. This opening will be used later to flip the heart to the right side.
- After sewing, clip the corner and trim the seam allowance as shown in the picture.
- Once ready, flip to the right side using the opening. Use a seam creaser or chopstick to make the edges crisp and neat.
- Press the heart nicely and flat.
- For the topstitch, mark 1/4 inch using a fabric marking pen on one side and sew when ready.
- Press again for a smooth finish, and you’re done!
💠 Sewing heart shapes can be a bit tricky for beginners because of the curves, but fear not! Fabric marking pens are here to save the day and make the process a breeze. These charming creations are not only easy to make but also perfect for adding a delightful and romantic touch to your Valentine’s dining table. Have fun crafting and spreading the love! ❤️❤️❤️
